Park officials have opened the doors to a new parallel parking option for the annual Central Park FiveK race.
The park’s official race website states the park will be holding parallel parking from 6 p.m. to 8 p.y.m., but those waiting outside will need to leave by 10 a.m to enter the park.
The event is scheduled to take place in Kalahari Water Park on the South Lawn of the White House on April 27.
Park officials hope it will give park visitors a new alternative to driving to and from the park, which is located on the Upper West Side of Manhattan.
Park spokesman Jim Cernovich said the parallel parking plan is designed to encourage people to come to the park and enjoy the event.
Cernich said the park has always offered a variety of different options to visitors to explore the park from different viewpoints.
He said parallel parking is a new option that is a first for Central Park.
“It’s one of those things that was designed to be a little bit different,” Cernicy said.
“And we’ve had a few other parks around the world that have had this.”
The park will also be offering free shuttle service from the Water Park entrance to the event, but park visitors are advised to take a taxi.
